Importance Of Car Tyre Rotation
Tyre rotation is defined as interchanging of front and rear car tyres. It is important for all cars but mainly for frontwheeldrive models where the front car tyres do a lot of work. In such car models places on all the force including the braking force steering power and the driving force on the front axles tyres. However the rear axle tyres receive only the braking force. This results in much faster wear rate of the front tyres leading to poor handling and reduced traction.
Car tyre rotation is vital to achieve uniform wear and long tread life. Rotation plays an integral role because of the position of the each wheel on the car. It also helps deliver balanced handling and improved traction control.
Tyres should be rotated every 5000 to 8000 kms based on recommendation by the car manufacturer. If in case the owner manual has no specifications car tyres can be rotated every 10000 kms or early depending on the conditions of the tyres.
Tyre rotation can be done in the following patterns:
Cross Rotation: This pattern of rotation can be easily performed on any front wheel drive or rear wheel drive car fitted with 4 nonunidirectional tyres. In such a case free rolling tyres are crossed and installed to the drive axle whereas the drive axle tyres are fitted straight to the free rolling axle without any crossing. In case of cross pattern of rotation both the rear wheels are crossed and installed in the position of the front wheels and the front wheels are installed in the place of rear wheels without any crossing.
4Wheel Drive: Cars that are equipped with the 4wheel drive system mainly undergo four tyre cross rotation. With this rotation pattern all the four car tyres are crossed and installed on the opposite axles.
Straight Rotation: This pattern of rotation has nothing to do with crossing. All the four tyres are interchanged following a straight pattern. The front tyre is replaced with the rear of the same side. This is considered to be one of the most traditional method of rotation that was introduced with the invention of radial tyres.
5 Tyre Rotation: This pattern of tyre rotation comprises all the four tyres along with the spare tyre in the trunk of the car. If in case the owner of the car desires to follow such a pattern or if the same is recommended by the car manufacturer then the appropriate position for the spare tyre is the right rare position. All the car tyres are crossed and installed on the opposite axles like the fourwheel drive rotation. When the spare replaces the rear right position the tyre that would have been placed to the right rear after the crossing should be left in the trunk as spare tyre.

Hybrid Car Batteries
There are hundreds of thousand hybrid cars on the roads in the U.S. In addition more and more hybrid cars are being sold and the dealerships of these fuel efficient vehicles are celebrating the record sales. But several environmentalists this might lead to a problem. They are afraid that the hybrid outbreak might turn into nickel hydride battery pollution. Environmentalists say hybrid cars batteries since they do not last lifelong would end up scattered in landfills and contaminate the soil. But isn’t it true that conventional gaspowered vehicles have batteries too and they can cause soil contamination without proper disposal?
According to several environmental researchers that is not the problem. There are several kinds of hybrid car batteries. Some of these batteries are less toxic while some contain more toxic elements. For instance LeadAcid and NickelCadmium batteries are not environmentally friendly but still their toxic levels and their impact to the environment are low.
The production of LithiumIon batteries is growing rapidly. Most of today’s hybrid cars use LithiumIon batteries as one of their power supply. Toyota was the very first company to use this type of battery in its vehicle. Toyota Vitz a small compact car which is only available in Japan uses LithiumIon battery packs to power the air conditioner lights in the gauges head lights and the heater while the car is in idle allowing the car to save gasoline.
By far the wildest vision of the LithiumIon battery is featured in Volvo 3CC. This concept electric car unveiled in 2004 depends exclusively on its 3000 Liion cells which provide all the power. Each cell is approximately the size of a AA battery. The battery pack gives the vehicle 105 horsepower and reduces the car’s emission to zero.
By using batteries hybrid cars are less powerful and slower but the researches are still going on to improve the functionality of these cars and to make it faster and safer.
